From Talent Shows to T-Shirt Sales
When you start a band with your twin brother and two best friends, album sales are the last thing you think about. We started our band to create the kind of music that we wanted to hear. The music we love.
Our musical roots can be traced back to Grant getting that first electric guitar for Christmas. Eventually I’d get my own guitar and we’d start learning our favorite Offspring and Blink 182 songs. We honed our skills in high school marching band and talent shows. Our band lineup was rounded out in college by our bassist Haroon and our drummer Wes.
Once we were old enough to drink (and maybe a little before too), we’d start playing local bars & clubs. Slowly, but surely our fanbase started to grow. We’d start seeing the same faces consecutively showing up at our shows. It’s a great feeling.
Two albums and several tours later, we’d open for bands like Sum 41, New Found Glory, & Sevendust. We’d placed in the Top 3 of numerous Battle of the Bands. Eventually, we would please the gods of rock enough to score opening spots on the Vans Warped Tour not once, but two years in a row.
When we look back on our musical career, the album sales & social media presence are the last things that come to mind. We remember the camaraderie felt with our tour mates. We remember the sunblock on our skin during humid summer tours. We remember packing equipment in our trailer like a game of Tetris. We reminisce about skateboarding across amphitheater venues. We recall bonding with fellow musicians from across the country. We bemuse selling CD’s out of backpacks. And we remember the thrill of kids being psyched enough about our band to buy a T-Shirt.
It’s knowing that you are one of a small percentage of the population to not only have seen, but to have lived ‘behind the curtain’ that makes this whole crazy thing worth while.
But perhaps even more important than all of that, it’s YOU, the listener, that makes all of it matter. We look forward to many more sometimes hard, sometimes ugly, always worthwhile experiences along this musical journey. Here’s to hoping that you are part of our journey. If you’d like to hear the most recent milestone of that journey, click here to listen to our most recent album, ‘Radiance’. Thank you for being a listener and for making it all matter.
